Interesting thing about locus of control (Rotter 1966). People who have an external locus of control (believe in fate, luck, etc) tend to be more likely to be criminals than people with an internal locus of control (believe they control/guide what happens to them through their actions). People with an external locus of control are less likely to feel guilty for doing 'wrong' things if they felt that they didn't have a say in the matter. That they are 'just that way' or that it was inevitable. If people believe it's going to happen anyway, they won't bother trying to stop it / not do it.
 
So there's another thing badly explained and possibly mangled by the Gecko.
